They say if you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere. While doing resilience training for professional football players in September 2019 something became very evident to me. New York has an energy unlike any city I’ve been to, there is also an edge to the city and people have some serious swagger. The folks there are not easily impressed.
When I was working there, there was an attitude in the room like, “what do you have to offer that can impress us.” I then was reminded how growing up 30 minutes from Manhattan shaped my attitude about how to have confidence and excellence. So when I stepped in the room with a bunch of accomplished people, I began to demonstrate to them that one of your greatest combinations in life is a great attitude with an insatiable hunger for knowledge.
I began to teach on how to win when the odds are against you. I then saw these people start to sit up more in their seats. Further stating that significance will always outlast success. Because typically success is about one person, yet significance is how you touch the masses. Having a resilient and selfless mindset will always lead to significance in life, and I challenged all of them to pursue significance and that New York City was the right place to start this new chapter. We will continue to remind people to unleash the beast that resides within all of us.
